ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN AVIATION PILOT TRAINING
In cooperation, Langa Air, Inc. and Lewis and
Clark Community College have developed a career training program
for aspiring professional pilots. The Illinois Board of Higher
Education recently approved the degree program entitled Aviation
Pilot Training.
The program will train students for a career
as a pilot for the airlines, cargo operations, charter companies
or corporate flight departments. Upon successful completion of
the course, students will earn the needed pilot ratings and certificates
and be awarded an Associates Degree in Applied Science. The program
also includes a paid certified flight instructor internship in
which students will gain additional flight experience.
Some details of the program are:
The student can begin flight training while still in high school.
Credits will be awarded upon completion of each course.
Langa Air and Lewis and Clark have numerous financial assistance
and loan programs available.
The student will be required to take 18 credit hours of general
education classes in addition to the flight courses.
The flight courses are offered at Langa Air's facility at St.
Louis Regional Airport. The general education courses are offered
at Lewis and Clark's campus and/or via the internet.
The course is designed to flow seamlessly into a baccalaureate
program.
"Langa Air has been training pilots for
the past 15 years, but really started focusing on career pilot
development about 5 years ago." Said Scott Langa, president
of Langa Air. "We have a number of graduates who are actively
employed in the industry already and we are confident that this
affiliation will greatly enhance our program. We feel that graduates
of this course will have all the necessary credentials to be competitive
in the marketplace."
Langa Air provides a one-on-one approach to flight
training and utilizes a state-of-the-art computer based training
system. "Because of the way we are structured, students are
capable of accelerating through our program at whatever pace they
feel comfortable," stated Dan Fellay, Langa Air's chief flight
instructor. "If a student is aggressive, he or she can accomplish
the initial training in less than a year and start making income
through our paid instructor internship while they are completing
their general studies and building flight experience."
The guarantee placement as an instructor intern
is very unique. Most schools provide the initial training but
do not provide a means to acquire the needed flight experience
to be considered for new-hire positions.
